Yoga - A Supreme Science of Exercise

The purpose of exercise is to have fit physical and mental health which is possible when each cell of body is active, body bends and mind is active. Usual cardio exercises like jogging, running, cycling, swimming etc. activates & flexes the body parts but invariably increases the heart rate in order to match the body metabolism rate. It simply means that all these exercises needs simultaneous pumping of heart.

Adams “rate-of-living-theory’ suggests that keeping other factors constant that the life span of a person directly depends on the number of strokes which heart can pump as the net energy in any body is more or less limited. Faster the pumping of heart, faster is the activity in body with higher metabolism with faster burn out rate. Thus the life span is directly proportional to number of strokes which heart can pump in its life time.

The beauty of Yoga through its asana is that each cell of body not only gets activated but also becomes flexible without increasing the heart rate and with a centred mind. Which means the Yoga has potential to activate the body without increasing the basic metabolic rate. As the burn out rate is normal the heart also need not pump at a faster rate therefore there is more mileage to heart with the peak level of activity, flexibility and a balanced mind.

As almost all the science of health heats the body in turn increasing the metabolism rate through higher heart pumping rate, can never match to the same fitness level through lower heart pumping rate as the yogasana’s do.

Smile and practice Yoga for healthy body, mind with a longer life span.
